If you’re looking for a citrus-forward, gin cocktail this winter, try a Rosemary Grapefruit Spritz. This cocktail is so refreshing and crisp. It’s sweet, sour, and herbaceous from the grapefruit and rosemary flavors.
Citrus fruits are known for providing bold and refreshing flavors that we see in the winter months. I think grapefruit is a very underrated citrus fruit that does not get the same love as lemon, lime, or orange. But grapefruit is just as delectable and packed with flavor!
The perfect compliment to a sour citrus fruit is an herb to balance it out. In this cocktail, that herb is rosemary, and it provides a wonderful earthly flavor.
Overall, this is a delightfully balanced cocktail recipe and I can’t wait to break it down for you. So, let’s get into it!
Ingredients
The ingredients in a Rosemary Grapefruit Spritz are simple and easy-to-find. The alcoholic ingredient is gin, and you can use any brand of gin you’d like.
Be sure to grab a grapefruit to squeeze out fresh grapefruit juice. But, in a pinch, you can use grapefruit juice from a bottle. This grapefruit cocktail also includes half an ounce of lemon juice.
The recipe calls for a sprig of fresh rosemary to add a complex, herbaceous flavor. It also calls for cane sugar, and club soda.
To garnish, simply use a rosemary sprig. A grapefruit slice can also be used to garnish.
Tools
To make this gin cocktail, a juicer for squeezing out fresh grapefruit juice is necessary, unless pre-squeezed, bottled juice is used. That is totally okay!
After the juicing, a shaker is needed and also a muddle, so that the rosemary essence can be crushed out of the sprig. Use jiggers to measure the liquid ingredients.
Finally, you will need a rocks glass for serving.
Can this Cocktail be Made in a Larger Batch?
Will this gin spritz work if made in a bigger batch? Yes, for the most part. Everything except for the bubbly topping can be made in a larger batch.
Double or triple the ingredients below using the same steps. Once it’s time to add the club soda, pour the mixture into individual glasses and individually top each glass with the club soda.
Make it a Mocktail
Looking for a way to make a Rosemary Grapefruit Fizz without the booze? No worries because this recipe can easily be made into a mocktail. Simply omit the gin form the recipe and add an extra ounce of grapefruit juice.
You’ll get the same, delicious flavors, without the booze.
Overall
This is a great cocktail to make at any point in the year, but especially in the winter when citrus is ripe and in season. Let me know if you make this one and how you like it!
