Looking for a fruity and flavorful but easy to make cocktail? Add this Pomegranate Sour recipe to your repertoire of rum cocktails.
I love sours because they are easy to make and they are always a crowd-pleasing cocktail. I make them often when I’m hosting a party and having drinks with friends. The foam created by the egg white is such an eye-catching detail that my guests love.
What makes this recipe extra fun is that it uses sweet, red pomegranates, which gives the cocktail such a beautiful color.
So let’s get into it!
Ingredients
To make a Pomegranate Sour, you will need 6 easy ingredients.
- Pomegranate Seeds
- White Rum
- Grenadine (optional)
- Lemon Juice
- Simple Syrup
- Egg White
The grenadine is is optional because the cocktail will still be delicious without it. But, I add it because I think it adds a little extra flavor and color. Grenadine is made from pomegranate juice, so it plays well with and enhances the flavor of the pomegranate seeds.
As for the rum, you can use any white rum. I used Captain Morgan. Feel free to change up the liquor and use vodka or something else if you wish.
You can buy pre-made simple syrup or you can make it because its super easy to make. The recipe is one part granulated sugar to one part water. Boil the water and add the sugar in to dissolve. Let the mixture thicken up for a few minutes, then take it off of the heat. Once cooled, store it in the fridge.

How to Make this Cocktail into a Mocktail
Sometimes it’s nice to make a tasty drink, but without the alcohol. Good news! This recipe is super easy to make into a mocktail.
Simply omit the rum and muddle two extra ounces of pomegranate instead. This will give the mocktail more volume, but without the alcohol.
Also consider adding a little extra simple syrup, about 1/4 to 1/2 ounce, to cut through some of the tart from the pomegranate seeds.
Overall
Overall, this is a light and delicious cocktail that is easy to make. It will impress your guests and have them asking for another.

Cheers!
